Lane Middleton died at age 84 on November 14, 2022 at her residence in Charleston, South Carolina. 

She moved with her parents, Blake and Totsy Middleton, of Charleston, South Carolina, to London in 1950, where her father was Director of the English branch of the Mobil Oil Company for ten years. Ms. Middleton attended Heathfield School in Ascot, England; Riante-Rive in Lausanne, Switzerland; and La Sorbonne in Paris. 

In 1959. Ms. Middleton married Francis Kinsman of Norfolk, England, and returned to Charleston upon their divorce in 1976. Ms. Middleton’s firstborn son, Blake Kinsman, died in 1983, and her daughter, Emmeline Kinsman, died in 2020. 

Ms. Middleton is survived by her younger son, John Kinsman, who lives with his family in Bulmark, Sweden. 

Ms. Middleton was a docent for several years at the museum houses run by Historic Charleston Foundation, and she worked for Charleston County from 1985 to 2009, in the Legal Department and the Administrator’s Office. 

Her graveside service will be held Thursday, November 17, 2022 in St. Paul’s Anglican Churchyard in Summerville at 11:00 a.m. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Downtown Chapel.
