Charles deVineau Williams, 78, of Mt. Pleasant, husband of Demetra Toula Philipps Williams, entered into eternal rest Tuesday, July 11, 2023.
His funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday, July 17, 2023, at the Greek Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity, 30 Race St., Charleston. Entombment will follow in Mt. Charles was born Sept. 6, 1944, in Charleston, son of Charles Braxton Williams and Ruth deVineau Williams. He started as a sportswriter and retired as editor of The Post and Courier, where he created the paper’s business section. In his retirement, he created and ran a digital newspaper, The Mt. Pleasant Journal.
Charles loved the Lowcountry and giving back to his community as a member of the Rotary Club and Elks Club, and as a soccer coach, who took teams to state championship multiple times. He was a member of the Greek Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity.
Charles will be remembered for his perspective, great sense of humor, caring nature and natural storytelling ability – but mostly for the love he gave his family.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years; son, Braxton deVineau Williams (April); grandchild, Anne Lisette Williams; and sister, Patricia Owens.
