Charles Wellmon, 88, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, husband of Jean Johnson Wellmon entered into eternal rest Thursday, September 5, 2024. His Funeral Service will be held Monday, September 9, 2024 in the J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Mount Pleasant Chapel, 1494 Mathis Ferry Road at 2:00 pm. Interment will follow in Mt. Pleasant Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Sunday, September 8, 2024 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm in J. Henry Stuhr Inc., Mount Pleasant Chapel.
Charles was born March 23, 1936 in Shelby, North Carolina, son of the late Wesley Monroe Wellmon and the late Zelia Brooks Wellmon. He enjoyed working in the yard and his flower garden and was also a loyal UNC Tarheel fan. Mostly, Charles will be remembered for the way he loved his family, especially his grandchildren and going to their games.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Jean Wellmon of Mount Pleasant; two daughters, Michelle Wellmon Waterbury (Reed) and Melissa Wellmon Herring (Jason) all of Mount Pleasant; four grandchildren, Charles Coste, Ian Coste, Hyatt Herring, Henry Herring; and two nieces, Nora Draper, and Marilyn Hoyle both of Shelby, NC. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers, Arnold James Wellmon and W. M. Wellmon.
