Charles Edward Vliet

Charles (Chuck) E. Vliet, 63, of Isle of Palms, South Carolina, entered into eternal rest Sunday, October 16, 2022. Chuck was born March 23, 1959, in Ashtabula, Ohio, to the late Theodore W. Vliet, Sr. and the late Carolyn J. Volkman. He spent his formative years in Maryland and relocated to the Isle of Palms with his family in the mid-1970’s. He was a graduate of Wando High School. Following high school Chuck worked at the Charleston Naval Shipyard until the shipyard closed in the early 1990’s. Thereafter he worked for the SC Department of Transportation until his retirement. Living on the Isle of Palms Chuck enjoyed surfing and beach walks. Also, he enjoyed fishing, vegetable gardening, and cooking.
 
In addition to his parents, Chuck was predeceased by the love of his life, Nancy Billings, and his brother Theodore (Ted) W. Vliet, Jr. Those who remain to cherish his memory are his sister-in-law Christi L. Vliet and her parents, Sherrill and Monta Ackerman of Mt Pleasant, SC; nephews, Matthew P. Vliet and his wife Samantha of North Charleston, SC, David T. Vliet and his wife Ashley of Florence, AZ, and Daniel J. Vliet and his girlfriend Paige McDowell of Anderson, SC. 
 
His funeral service will be held graveside, Saturday, October 29, 2022, in the Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens, 1308 Mathis Ferry Road at 3:00 pm. The family will receive friends Saturday from 1:30 pm to 2:30 pm in J. Henry Stuhr Inc., Mount Pleasant Chapel, 1494 Mathis Ferry Rd.
 
Memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice.
