Charles Gordon Perry III, 78, of Charleston, South Carolina, husband of Evelyn Reis Perry, entered into eternal rest Thursday, October 4, 2018. His funeral service will be held Tuesday, October 9, 2018 in J. Henry Stuhr Inc., Downtown Chapel, 232 Calhoun Street at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Magnolia Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4:00p.m. to 6:00p.m. Monday at Stuhr's Downtown Chapel.
Buck was born August 4, 1940 in Chattanooga, Tennessee, son of Charles Gordon Perry, Jr. and Vera Trimby Crumbliss. He was a member of Columbia I, the first Peace Corps group ever to go overseas, where he worked in community development and educational television. Buck graduated from the University of Tennessee, earned his Registered Professional Engineer (PE) license and had a successful career in radio and television engineering. He was a founder of and Vice President at Carolina Sound Communications, enabling him to work with his family. His love of history led him to Civil War re-enacting, where he was active with the 10th South Carolina Volunteer Infantry, was Treasurer of Secession Camp # 4, and was a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans.
He loved the Lowcountry waterways, where he could often be found fishing, shrimping, crabbing, boating and water-skiing. He is survived by his wife of Charleston, his two sons, Charles G. Perry IV (Susie) of Summerville, SC, David R. Perry of Charleston, SC, two grandchildren, Jessica L. Perry, Reis A. Perry; two sisters, Ann Pass of Atlanta, GA, Carolyn Perry of Chattanooga, TN; two brothers, Raleigh Perry of Atlanta, GA, Tommy Perry of Chattanooga, TN.
