Charles John Mears, 82, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, husband of Joan Morgan Mears died Wednesday, August 14, 2013. The relatives and friends of C. John Mears are invited to attend his Funeral Service on Friday, August 16, 2013 in the Christ Church Mount Pleasant, 2304 U.S. 17 North at 11:00 am. Entombment will follow in Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Thursday, August 15, 2013 in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL from 5:00 until 7:00 pm.

John was born on February 14, 1931 in Richmond, Virginia, son of the late Charles Edmund Mears and Katherine Reed Mears. He served in the United States Air Force from 1951 to 1954 during the Korean Conflict and graduated from The Baylor School and the University of Delaware in 1958. John retired as a Human Resource and Employee Relations Manager with E.I. Dupont and was a member of the Trident Chamber of Commerce. He was Board Chairman of the Snee Farm Country Club, served as area president of Howell & Associates Property Management, was on the Board of Trustees for the Trident Technical College Foundation and served on the Development Board for the Association for the Blind.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Joan M. Mears of Mount Pleasant, SC; two sons, Richard Harvard Mears and his wife, Diana, of Acworth, GA and James Thomas Mears and his wife, Sandy, of Mt. Pleasant, SC; one brother, David Mears of Huntington Beach, FL; four grandchildren, Kristin Donovan and her husband, Brenden, Caitlin Mears, Bradley Mears, Bennett Mears, and numerous nieces and nephews.
