Charles Alexander Low, 75, of Charleston, South Carolina, husband of Dixie Wilson Low entered into eternal rest Sunday, August 5, 2012. A Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, August 8, 2012 in the Seacoast Church, West Ashley Campus, at 11:00 am. Interment, Holy Cross Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL, 3360 Glenn McConnell Pkwy., Charleston. Mr. Low was born September 30, 1936 in Charleston, South Carolina, son of Charles Alexander Low, Sr. and Meta Louisa Katrina Schmonsees Low. Charles graduated from St. Andrews High School where he made many life long friends. He joined the US Air Force serving as a Medic and playing for the Elite Air Force Baseball Team. Charles was a mentor to many children within the Charleston area. He served for 25 years as Athletic Director for St. Andrews Parks and Playground and was a driving force in the progress and success of the program. He also served as Athletic Director for the James Island YMCA and Coached football for 40 years to include Porter Gaud, Sea Island Academy, East Cooper School and First Baptist School, most with his life long friend, Pascal Crosby. He was a past umpire for the Citadel baseball games. Charlie played semi-pro football with the Charleston Rebels throughout his career, he achieved numerous awards for his professional and personal attributes, including the formation of the Dixie Youth program, boxing programs and aided in procuring college scholarships for his athletes. He attended Trident Technical College to assist in his own education. Charlie had a very gifted outlook on life, never met a stranger, he said "Don't sweat the small stuff, everything is small stuff and make a friend every day." He will long be remembered for his wit and caring heart and his love for family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Dixie Low of Charleston, SC, daughter, Robin Low Prosise and husband Dennis , son, Charles A. Low Jr., step son, King Walker Jr. and wife Debra, step daughter, Tracy W. Silver and husband Rick, Grandchildren, Allison P. (James) McCutchen, Savanna Leigh Prosise, Peyton Douglas Low, Julie L. (Chris) Copeland, Ryan, Larson and Max Walker, Jersey Brooke Silver, two great-grandchildren, Miles and Macie Copeland, and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his late wife, Lucille Yvonne McCay Low and four sisters, Lois Black, Hazel Ferri, Enston Elwell and Carolyn Low.
