Charles Andrew Johnston

Charles Andrew Johnston, 73, of Charleston, South Carolina, entered into eternal rest Sunday, February 12, 2017. His funeral service will be held Friday, February 24, 2017, in Holy Trinity Windermere Church, 95 Folly Road Blvd, at 2:00 p.m. Burial services are to be held at a later date in Beaufort National Cemetery. Charles was born July 30, 1943 in Port Limon, Costa Rica, son of the late Robert Charles Johnston and Anita Parker Johnston. He was a veteran of the United States Navy, graduate of The Citadel, Class of 1967, and master's graduate of the University of South Carolina, Class of 1974. Charles was a career educator and retired from the Charleston Public School System. He was a lifetime member of the episcopal church and member of the choir. He was an avid outdoorsman. He loved boating, kayaking, canoeing, and fishing.

He is survived by his two sons, Peter Charles Johnston (Lee Ann) of Johns Island, and Joel Johnston of Wadmalaw Island; a daughter, Hope Johnston (Rohan) of James Island; brother, James Johnston of Costa Rica; and two sisters, Matilda Kuhlman of New Jersey, and Patricia Johnston of Costa Rica; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his devoted girlfriend, of 13 years, Blake Hagen.
