Charles Hayne Hunter

Charles Hayne Hunter, widower of Peggy Lavina Bolt Hunter, passed away on the evening of April 30, 2012 after a short illness. Residence, Charleston, SC. All services will be private. The family will receive friends at a later date.
Mr. Hunter was born March 8, 1935, the son of Elbert Hayne Hunter and Loudie Mae Boozer Hunter. He was a graduate of Berkeley High School and The University of South Carolina School of Journalism. He was employed by the Charleston Evening Post and was the director of the MUSC Alumni Association and Assistant Director of Development at MUSC in addition to other careers until his retirement.
He was President, Treasurer, and on the Executive Board of the Historic Ansonborough Neighborhood Association. He was a member of the Charleston Press Club, South Carolina Press Association, Harleston Village Preservation Society, and Preservation Society of Charleston. He was also on the Board of Directors for the Charleston Chapter of the United States Navy League. Mr. Hunter received the Armed Forces Newspaper Service Award, the South Carolina Press Association Award in reporting and in photography, as well as the Personalities of the South Award from the American Biographical Institute and the Bicentennial Memorial Edition.
He is survived by his daughter: Cynthia H. Sokol of Charleston, SC; two grandchildren: Benjamin Noah Sokol and Maxie Amanda Sokol; two brothers: Harry D. Hunter (Rosetta) of Columbia, SC and Donald L. Hunter (Ann) of Myrtle Beach, SC; a sister-in-law: Jane Nettles (Bernie) of Charleston, SC.
