Charles Russell Horres, Sr., 94, of Charleston, SC, husband of Eula Louise Smith Horres, entered into eternal rest Saturday, September 3, 2016, at his home. His celebration of life will be held Tuesday, September 6, 2016, in John Wesley United Methodist Church, 626 Savannah Highway, at 2:00 p.m. Interment, Live Oak Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Tuesday at the church one hour prior to the service. Arrangements by J. HENRY STUHR, INC., DOWNTOWN CHAPEL.
Russell was born October 19, 1921 in Charleston, SC, son of the late Joseph A. Horres and Edna McCaffer Horres. He graduated from Murray Vocational School and was a WWII veteran of the U.S. Navy. On October 17, 1943, he married the former Eula Louise Smith in Charleston. Russell was employed in the Superintendent of Shipbuilding Conversion and Repair Department for the Sixth Naval District Charleston. In his retirement, he contributed many hours of service to John Wesley United Methodist Church.
He is survived by three sons: Russell Horres, Jr. (Mary), Donald Horres (Terry), all of Mt. Pleasant, SC, and Randall Horres (Renee) of James Island, SC; seven grandchildren: Julie Gillett (Donny) of Cainhoy, SC, Eric Shade (Jill) of Marietta, GA, Erin Sadler (Matthew) of Dunwoody, GA, Paige Owens (Henry) of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Russell Horres III of Durham, NC, Ravenel and Stiles Horres of James Island, SC; five great-grandchildren; sister, Lorraine Evans of Charleston, SC; and numerous nieces and nephews.
