Charles Cecil Holly died peacefully at the Veterans Victory House with his son by his side on the morning of January 19, 2011. Mr. Holly was a loving and caring husband who took care of his late wife Norma Craig Holly during her difficult time with Alzheimer's. He was a resident of Walterboro, South Carolina and long time resident of Charleston. The relatives and friends are invited to attend his services in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL, 2:00 pm, Saturday, January 22, 2011. Interment, Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at Stuhr's West Ashley Chapel Friday between 5:00 and 7:00 pm. Memorials may be made to Alzheimer's Association, 2090 Executive Hall Road, Suite 130, Charleston, SC 29407.
Mr. Holly was born August 8, 1918 in Barnwell, South Carolina, a son the late James Shannon Holly and the late Lessie Dyches Holly. Charles was a World War II Army veteran and served in France and Iceland. He worked at Westvaco for 20 years and at one time owned an operated an Amoco Station on Highway 7, and was an Electrician with the Charleston Naval Shipyard where he retired.
Surviving are his son, David Craig Holly of Round O; his daughter-in-law, Jeanette Holly of Goose Creek; two grandchildren, Craig Holly and wife Megan of Dorchester, SC, Christine Elizabeth Holly of Charleston; a great grandson, Landon Holly of Dorchester, SC; sister, Miriam Durick of Greenfield, IN; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Holly was preceded in death by a son Charles Allen Holly, two brothers J. S. Holly and Claude Morris; and a sister Betty Turner.
A special thanks to the employees and staff of the Veterans Victory House, Currey Gold Unit for their compassion and care given to my father at his time of passing. A special thanks also to Kim Green a former employee at the Veterans Victory House for her extrodinary care and compassion.
