Charles Thomas "Tom" Dunnells, 83, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, husband of Nancy Parish Dunnells entered eternal rest Saturday, August 15, 2026. A service will be held August 31, 2026, at Christ Episcopal Church, 2304 N. Highway 17, Mount Pleasant, at 10 am. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Mount Pleasant Chapel.
Tom was born January 26, 1943, in Port Washington, New York, son of the late Clifford George Dunnells and Marie Patton Dunnells. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Nancy; his son, Bradley John (Cynthia); his grandchildren, Eamon , Avery, and Collin; his brother Jerome, and many loving nieces, nephews and friends.
A champion of the underdog, Tom lived a life of curiosity, compassion and love. An outdoor enthusiast and world traveler, he was an ardent reader, gardener and bicyclist, completing a solo trip across the U.S. at the age of 75.
Tom graduated from the University of Denver with a B.S. in Chemistry and Physics and then served in the Peace Corps. He started his career as a high school chemistry teacher in inner city Philadelphia and after a few years changed course, joining IBM as a salesperson. At the end of his IBM career, he was a Senior Healthcare Consultant.
In retirement, he led a project to bring water to Wum, Cameroon the home village of one of his students. To thank him for his work on the project, Tom was given the honorary title, Prince of Cameroon.
