IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Charles "Chuck" R.
Weir
September 2, 1944 – January 30, 2026
Celebration of Life
2:00 - 4:00 pm (Eastern time)
Chuck lived a full life - always ready for the next adventure. Born into an ever-relocating Air Force family, he lived in ten different states over the years as well as in Germany and Madrid, Spain, where he graduated from high school. While living in Spain, he enjoyed summers cycling through different countries (as far away as Tangiers) as well as riding horses at the Spanish Royal Riding Academy, playing tennis, chess, bridge and the clarinet, attending the bull fights and sipping the local wines with tapas.
He began his business and law studies at the University of Maryland's Munich, Germany campus (somehow his room was always the gathering spot and beer-drinkers' hang out) and later transferred to the US campus where he was recruited to manage several large Montgomery Ward stores. From there, Chuck was promoted into various executive positions over the years, including at The Gap, Host Marriott, Duty Free International, SAP, Sita Corp. and opened 2 dollar stores in Charleston. He even found time to learn how to pilot a small aircraft and joined a curling team when in the snowy regions of upstate NY.
While a successful businessman, Chuck was, foremost, devoted to his family and raising his two sons, Ben and Gerry (he later had to put up with the ice cream jokes once the brand was created!) and stepson, Stephen. Then in 1995, while working in the NYC area, in what was certainly a happy turn of fate, he met the "love of his life", Joanne, and eventually they married and retired to his favorite city, Charleston, SC where Chuck's parents and sisters also lived.
What better place to be able to indulge his love of golf, music, great cuisine and warm weather? Eventually, grandchildren added to his joy.
Chuck made many wonderful friends, especially on the golf course. He also found many ways to support causes close to his heart such as veterans, Special Olympics and children including volunteering as a Guardian Ad Litem for at risk children for several years.
Many will certainly miss his ready smile, quick wit and kindness. We like to think he's enjoying some well-deserved golf with his dad and mom and is telling them about his hole-in-one in Dec 2024! Chuck was a rare person who lived a good life, loved easily and was easy to love in return.
A Celebration of Life is planned for Saturday, Feb 21, from 2-4 pm at 5020 W Liberty Meadows Dr. Summerville, SC 29485 All are welcome. Donations to Lowcountry Food Bank is optional in lieu of flowers.
Charles (Chuck) R. Weir, 81, of Summerville, SC, beloved husband of Joanne Bilodeau, passed away at home on January 30, 2026. He had been in home-hospice care for cancer and was grateful for the opportunity to spend quality time with his loved ones.
Born into an ever-relocating Air Force family to Col. Gerald Weir and Norma Bolenbaugh of Carlisle, Indiana, Chuck was accustomed to moving and lived in 10 different US states as well as Germany and Spain before settling in Charleston, SC.
While a successful businessman in various executive positions, Chuck was foremost devoted to his family and enjoyed many friendships, especially on the golf course! Additionally, he found many ways to support causes close to his heart such as veterans, special Olympics, and children including serving many years as a Guardian Ad Litnem for at-risk children.
Many will certainly miss his ready humor, smiling face, kindness and blue eyes. We like to think he's enjoying some well-deserved golf with his dad and mom and is telling them about his hole-in-one in Dec 2024! Chuck was a rare person who lived a good life, loved easily and was easy to love in return.
