Charles "Chuck" Henry Sonnenberg was born on August 17, 1942, in Wilkinsburg, PA to Charles and Ruth Steinert Sonnenberg. He lived through early adulthood in Pittsburgh , PA and east of the Mississippi throughout his life. Chuck died peacefully on September 3, 2024, in Mount Pleasant, SC, home since 2008.
A cherished husband, father, brother, and grandfather, Chuck lived a life marked by numerous achievements and an unwavering commitment to God, family, and his profession.With a distinguished career that exemplified leadership and expertise, Chuck was a Partner with Deloitte, a testimony to his commitment to excellence. His remarkable ability to navigate complex challenges led him to serve as a leader in establishing information systems at prestigious organizations, including NASA, Peoples Drug Stores in Washington, D.C., and Cracker Barrel Old Country Store, Inc. Chuck ended his professional career as a valued Partner with Southern District of Thrivent Financial, where his insights and guidance inspired many.
Chuck's education served as a strong foundation for his professional career, earning a Bachelor’s degree from Capitol University in Columbus, OH, and a Master’s degree from the University of Pittsburgh. His intellectual curiosity and passion for learning remained a cornerstone of his character throughout his life.
Adored by many, Chuck leaves behind his beloved wife, Marilyn Bache Chassie Sonnenberg, who resided alongside him in Mount Pleasant, SC. His family includes his daughter, Elizabeth Anne Almerini (Thom) from Willow Grove, PA; and his son, John C. Sonnenberg (Maggie) from Virginia Beach, VA. He also embraced his role as a stepfather, lovingly supporting his step-daughter, Beth Ellen Chassie-Copeck (Joe) of Lexington, KY. Chuck will be deeply missed by his brothers, David Sonnenberg (Carol) of West Chester, PA, and Gary Sonnenberg (Janice) of Jefferson City, MO. The gentle spirit of Chuck's legacy will live on through his two cherished grandchildren, John and Cate Copeck, and many nieces and nephews.who brought him immense pride and happiness. He was preceded in death by his first wife and mother of his children, Sandra Lois Parks.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Chuck's extraordinary life during his funeral service to be held on October 4, 2024, at All Saints Lutheran Church, located at 2107 N Hwy 17 in Mount Pleasant, SC. The service will commence at 11:00 AM, followed by a reception in the Parish Life Center to share memories and honor the lasting impact Chuck has had on all who knew him. Arrangements by J. As we remember Charles "Chuck" Sonnenberg, let us carry forward his legacy of generosity, professionalism, and love. His presence will be sorely missed, but those who had the privilege of knowing him will forever cherish the memories woven through their hearts.
