Charles "Charlie" Andrew Davis

Charles Andrew Davis, 76, of Hanahan, SC, passed away on May 6, 2024.  His Funeral Service will be held Saturday, May 11, 2024 at the Goose Creek High School, Harry D. Calvert auditorium at 12:00 pm. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Northwoods Chapel.

Born July 27 1947 in Orangeburg, SC. Charlie touched many lives and was loved by many (pretty much all of Berkeley County and 90% of Charleston County). Those who had the privilege of knowing Charlie know that he had a special gift of knowing exactly what a person needed to hear and when. Charlie made you feel truly heard and as though no matter where you were in life, you mattered.

Charlie loyally served the students of the Berkeley County School District for over 50 years with careers in a variety of roles including head basketball coach and coach of various other sports, teacher, guidance counselor, principal, athletic director, assistant to the superintendent, and expulsion hearing officer. He dedicated and committed his life to the betterment of the education system and the development and success of students and athletes.

Charlie’s dedication to his career never stood in the way of him being a strong, central, and loving figure to his family. Being the center for many family gatherings and occasions he will be missed by his family deeply.

Charlie loved golf, and he loved the friends he enjoyed golf with even more. He and his friends named their golf group “The Amigos”; a goofy label to the serious friendship they had and the enjoyment they experienced on the golf course together. Charlie was the Long Drive Contest champion and an incredible putter.

Charlie was a God-loving man and was a member of Seacoast church for over 20 years.

He is survived by children, Shannon LeCompte (Aaron) of Hanahan, SC and Melissa Tracy (David) of Goose Creek, SC; Ansley Hommond (Brandon) of Hanahan, SC, Townson Wells (Maggie Bonoit) of Atlanta, GA; grandchildren, Kaitlyn LeCompte, Peyton LeCompte (Amelia), Savannah Tracy (Chase Hughes), Travis Davis, Jr., Tristan Davis, Trace Davis, Mackey Hammond, Kaylee LeCompte, Myra Grace Hammond, David Tracy (Ashley), and Christina Gruber (Matthew); great grandchildren, Matthew Gruber, Julie Gruber and David Tracy; daughter-in-law, Holly Noel Davis of North Charleston, SC; mother-in-law, Jessie McNeill of Hanahan, SC; siblings, Flannery Davis of Santa Fe, NM and Kenny Davis (Hannah) of Panama City, FL; mother of his children, Mary Joyce Charpia of Hanahan, SC. In addition to his wife and parents he was preceded in death by son, Travis Davis, Sr.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for contributions to the Charlie Davis Scholarship for the students of Berkeley County. More information about donations to come at the funeral.
