Charles Edward Chambliss, III, 86, husband of Eleanor Bivens Chambliss of Mount Pleasant, SC passed away on Tuesday, December 6, 2011. The relatives and friends of Charles Chambliss, III are invited to attend his Memorial Service on Saturday, December 17, 2011 in J. HENRY STUHR MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL AT 1:00 pm. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends at the Mount Pleasant Chapel on Saturday, December 17, 2011 one hour prior to the service and immediately following the service.
Mr. Chambliss was born December 20, 1924 in Washington, DC, son of the late Charles Edward Chambliss, Jr. and Sara Brown Chambliss Berry. He attended The Citadel and graduated from George Washington University. He served in the United States Army during World War II in Burma. Mr. Chambliss was a member of Grace Episcopal Church and a former member of Birmingham First United Methodist Church in Birmingham, Michigan. While in Birmingham, he was a member of the Senior Men's Club. He was a member of the Citadel Alumni Association and the George Washington University Alumni Association. He retired from General Motors Corp after 37 years in Sales and Marketing. He was a member of the Society of Automotive Engineers and a Life Master Bridge Player.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Eleanor B. Chambliss of Mt. Pleasant, SC; two daughters, Susan C. Ives and her husband, Russell of Birmingham, MI and Page C. Gorman and her husband, Michael, of Bloomfield Hills, MI; one sister, Margaret C. Herbert and her husband, Howard, of Alexandria, VA; and a dear cousin, Patricia Hiller of Arlington, VA; ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his two sons, Charles E. Chambliss, IV and Roger R. Chambliss.
