Charles David Apter, age 87, passed away on Tuesday, September 23, 2014. His memorial service will be held Saturday, September 27, 2014 at 4:00 p.m. in the J. Henry Stuhr, Mount Pleasant Chapel, 1494 Mathis Ferry Road. Inurnment to follow at Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Downtown Chapel.
Charlie was born in Spring Lake, New Jersey and spent his developing years in Coastal Central New Jersey. He attended public schools and was very active in several sports including baseball, basketball and football. He graduated from Lafayette College with a B.S. in Industrial Engineering following service in the U.S. Army in Germany. He was employed by the DuPont Company in Seaford, DE; Richmond, VA; Wilmington, DE; and Moncks Corner, SC. He retired after 35 years in 1986.
Charlie and his wife, Abbie, of 63 years are the proud parents of William Carl Apter of Raleigh, NC; Richard Charles Apter of Lanham, MD; Rebecca Ann Apter of Dunwoody, GA; and Thomas David Apter of Newnan, GA. He is also survived by three grandchildren; Charles Gordon Apter, Joshua David Apter and Abigail Caroline Apter.
Charlie was very active as a volunteer for the Town of Mt. Pleasant's Planning and Zoning Board of Appeals, and Board of Architectural Review; the Snee Farm Golf and Country Club; and the East Cooper Meals on Wheels organization. He attended Hibben Methodist Church.
