Charlene Harley Smith, 81, of North Charleston, South Carolina, wife of the late Raymond E. "City" Smith entered into eternal rest Tuesday, August 20, 2024. Her Funeral Service will be held Saturday, August 31, 2024 in the Pittman Street Baptist Church, 5105 Pittman Street at 11AM. Prior to the service the family will receive friends in the sanctuary from 10AM to 11AM. Private inurnment will take place at Beaufort National Cemetery. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Northwoods Chapel.
Charlene was born November 25, 1942 in Charleston, South Carolina, daughter of the late James M. Harley and the late Dorothy Wingate Harley. She loved her church and Bible study. She enjoyed crocheting. She made all the wedding cakes for church members getting married. Later in life she and her husband passionately served in missionary work in Sofia, Bulgaria.
She is survived by sons, Timothy Callaway Smith (Iwona) of Leland, NC and James Patrick Smith (Heather) of Galva, IA; sisters, Brenda Lockey of N. Charleston, SC and Marilyn Irick (Zack) of Atlanta, GA; grandchildren, Lauren Olivia Smith of Houston, TX, Nicholas Calloway Smith of Fort Collins, CO, Mark Andrews of N. Charleston, SC, John Andrews of N. Charleston, SC, Kaitlyn Smith of FL and Kiley Smith of Galva, IA. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by daughter, Sherri Ann Andrews and brother, Richard Harley.
