Challis Leon Kilgore

Challis L. Kilgore, 63, of North Charleston, SC, husband of Julia S. Kilgore, died Sunday, May 23, 2010, in a local hospital. Born January 22, 1947, in Scioto County, OH, he was the eldest of four children of Chester Kilgore and Loretta Imogene Sexton Kilgore. Mr. Kilgore served 10 years in the US Navy, was a Vietnam veteran and served two years in the reserves. He previously owned and operated an auto paint and body shop and later worked as manager in the car repair business. Throughout his life Challis was a car enthusiast. He loved antique cars and race cars. Challis enjoyed being with his family and friends. Grilling out and camping were favorite times spent with the people he loved. Mr. Kilgore is survived by his wife of 41 years, Julia S. Kilgore of North Charleston, SC; sons, Frankie Kilgore and his wife Jenni and Stewart Kilgore and his wife Rhonda all of North Charleston, SC; four grandchildren: Reaghan Kilgore Friddle, McKynley Kilgore, Kimberly and Tamara Avery; one great-grandson, Tripp Bedell; brother, Clarence Bryan Kilgore and his wife Susan of OH; and sisters, Penny Best and her husband Richard of Moncks Corner, SC and Brenda Blizzard and her husband Carl of OH; and his Boston Bull Terrier, Luke. The memorial service will be held in Cathedral of Praise, Wednesday, May 26, 2010, at 3:00 p.m. followed by military honors. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
