Cecil M. Kirkland, 87, of Charleston, South Carolina, husband of Lenora Tanner Kirkland went home to be with his Lord Jesus Christ, Tuesday, July 17, 2012. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral service Friday, July 20, 2012 at 11:00 am in Holy Trinity Episcopal Church. Entombment, Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at J. HENRY STUHR, INC., DOWNTOWN CHAPEL, Thursday between 5:00 and 7:00 pm.
Mr. Kirkland was born on October 7, 1924 in Cottonwood, Alabama, the son of Ethel Kirkland. He was a graduate of Cottonwood High where he was the Class President and played football and baseball. He graduated from the University of Alabama in 1950 and received his Law Degree from LaSalle University. He was an active member of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church. Mr. Kirkland served in the United States Army during World War II and retired as the Director of the Management Analyst Office of the Sixth Naval District Headquarters located on the Charleston Naval Base.
His passions were teaching Bible studies, serving the Lord and honoring his wife.
He is survived by Lenora, the love of his life, of Charleston, SC; two sons: C.M."Kirky" Kirkland, Jr. of Charleston, SC and Stephen D. Kirkland (Pam) of Columbia, SC, and many other wonderful family members and friends. He is predeceased by his Mother and a special aunt, Sarah Nell Shiver.
