Cathryn Smith Bunch

Mary Cathryn Smith Bunch, wife of XO Bunch, Jr. ("Buck") died on Thursday, May 12, 2011.  Graveside services will be held, Sunday, May 15, 2011 at 3:00 pm in Target United Methodist Church Cemetery in Holly Hill, SC. Friends and relatives may call at North Charleston United Methodist Church in Davis Hall, Saturday between 4:00 and 6:00 pm and at Target Cemetery following services. 

Cathryn was born July 11, 1921, in Richmond County,Georgia, the daughter of the late Clennie Cooper Smith and Duncan Calhoun Smith.  She attended school in Ridgeland, SC and graduated from Kingstree High School.  She attended Lander College and moved to Charleston around 1940 where she took a job at Hughes Transportation, Inc.  It was there that she met her husband of 67 years.  She and "Buck" raised their two sons in North Charleston where she was an active member of North Charleston United Methodist Church and the Elizabeth Vickery Circle.  She was a former member of the North Charleston Exchange Club Auxiliary and a Life Member of the Greater Charleston Rotary Club Auxiliary.  She was a Paul Harris Fellow.  Her husband, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were the loves of her life. 

She is survived by her beloved husband of North Charleston, SC; two sons: David W. Bunch and his wife Judy of Awendaw, SC and Dexter XO Bunch and his wife, June of Hanahan, SC; six grandchildren: Douglas David Bunch and his wife Rachel of Hollywood, SC, John Michael Stortz of Brooklyn, NY, Kimberly Drake of Hanahan, SC, Duncan XO Bunch and his wife Stephanie of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Darcie Mullinax and her husband Kert of Charleston, SC, Anna Bunch of James Island, SC and Maggie Bunch of Johns Island, SC; five great grandchildren: Noah Drake, Isabella Drake, Caleb Vestrand, Kam Mullinax, and Brooks Mullinax.  Cathryn and her family have been blessed during the last seven months by her faithful sitter and companion, Patricia Taylor.
