Kitty Price Wright - December 24, 1945 - June 1, 2026

Catherine “Kitty” Price Wright, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, friend, and active community member, passed away on July 1, 2026, in Summerville, South Carolina.

Born on Christmas Eve in 1945 in Salisbury, North Carolina, Kitty was a woman who cherished family traditions, the holiday season, and the joy of bringing people together. After graduating from Boyden High School and attending Catawba College, she settled in Beaufort, South Carolina, where she raised her family and devoted herself to her community. She worked for the County of Beaufort in the Finance Department, taught accounting classes at Lowcountry Technical College, was actively involved in Leadership Beaufort and volunteered with the March of Dimes.

Kitty embraced life with enthusiasm and purpose. In retirement, she remained active as an avid bridge player and served as Queen Mother of the Marsh Hatters, the local Beaufort chapter of the Red Hat Society. She was widely recognized throughout the Beaufort area for her exceptional cooking and baking talents, frequently participating in and winning local baking competitions.

Known for her generosity, warmth, and kindness, Kitty touched countless lives. She never allowed physical limitations to keep her from pursuing her passions. She loved to craft, cook, decorate, travel, explore new destinations, and enjoy cruises with friends and family. A dedicated advocate for disability rights, she believed deeply that everyone deserved equal opportunities and a fair chance to succeed.

Affectionately known as “Aunt Kitty”, or “Miss Kitty” to many, she delighted in sending thoughtful gifts and cards to friends’ children and grandchildren, extending her love and kindness far beyond her immediate family. Kitty never let distance get in the way of her friendships, often traveling back to her hometown of Salisbury to visit friends and former classmates. Whenever she learned of a child with special needs, she made it her mission to ensure that child felt accepted, valued, and special.

Kitty is survived by her daughter, Kristin VanCuren (Charles); her son, Kevin Wright (Dee); her grandchildren, Justin Wright, Alexandria “Ali” Ruegamer (Andrew), Zachary VanCuren (Andrea); and her cherished great-grandchild, Ollie VanCuren, whom she adored. Kitty is also survived by many lifelong friends who she considered family.

Her family and friends will remember her for her generous spirit, unwavering compassion, sense of fun, storytelling and the love she shared with others.

Kitty will join her grandparents Vivian and Charles Hamilton, and her mother Catherine Price. She will also join her aunts Dorris Hamiliton and Virgina Eller, who played pivotal roles in her upbringing and whom she loved deeply.

The family is planning to hold a graveside service and celebration of life this coming fall in her hometown of Salisbury, North Carolina. Details to be announced.

Arrangements are by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Mount Pleasant Chapel. A memorial message may be sent to the family on our website at www.jhenrystuhr.com.
