Catherine Jean Kerr, 71, of Charleston, SC, died Friday, October 10, 2014. Her funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 15, 2014 in St. Thomas The Apostle Catholic Church at 11:00 am. Interment will follow in Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 14, 2014 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., NORTHWOODS CHAPEL, 2180 Greenridge Road.
Catherine was born October 21, 1942 in Roundup, Montana, daughter of the late James Donald Martin Sr. and the late Margaret Catherine Graham Martin. She was a 1960 graduate of Canton High School in Canton SD. In 1962 she graduated from Nettleton College. Ms. Kerr was a devout Catholic serving as a Catechist teacher for 25 years. Her parish awarded her the Catholic Woman of the Year 1992. She served as a Eucharistic minister during church services and brought communion to homebound church members, patients at Trident Hospital and at Eagle Landing.
Ms. Kerr retired after 28 years working for Southern Division Naval Facilities as an engineering technician. She also volunteered with the Boy Scouts, Red Cross, Navy Relief Thrift Shop, and the Catholic Woman's club at Naval Weapons Station.
She is survived by her daughter, Kristina (Robert) Humphries of Goose Creek; two sons, George Patrick Kerr of Hanahan, SC, and Kevin Douglas Kerr of Marietta, GA; her twin brother, James Donald (Harriet) Martin Jr. of Chelon, WA, and baby brother, Dennis (Andi) Martin of Dakota Dunes, SD; six grandchildren, Samantha, Tabitha, Michael, Justin, Emily and Robie. She was preceded in death by her brother, Patrick Martin.
