Catherine was born on December 7, 1944 to the late Mary Walz Hutto and William Benjamin Hutto, Jr. in New Orleans but was raised in Charleston, SC. In the late 1960's Catherine moved briefly to NYC to pursue her interest in fashion design and art history. In 1978 she moved to the Washington DC area, where she raised her two children and completed a B.A. in Art History at the University of Maryland. Many weekends in DC were spent volunteering at local theaters and for civic activities, visiting museums, and partaking in other cultural events.
Catherine worked in the Montgomery County MD Government until retirement, as well as working/volunteering at local consignment shops, and working in estate/antique sales. A Charlestonian at heart, she returned to her hometown in 2017. Catherine was a devoted mother and doting grandmother and throughout her life, was deeply devoted to her brother W. Benjamin Hutto III. She loved traveling, collecting linens, china and other antiques, as well as hosting parties for family and members of her extensive social network. Catherine was a people person by nature, who created new friendships everywhere she went, and nurtured existing ones. Her loving presence will be deeply missed by many.
Catherine is survived by her daughter, Marie Catherine Cordella of Raleigh, NC; her son, Thomas Henry Cordella (Jessica); two grandsons: Henry Arnold Cordella and Benjamin Bernard Cordella all of Tampa FL; as well as her partner, David Allen.
