Catherine Worthington Cousins entered peacefully into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on March 15, 2026. She was born on June 26, 1938 in Lenoir County, North Carolina to Catherine Pearl Parker Worthington and Frederick Carney Worthington, Sr. She was a devoted wife, teacher, mother, and grandmother whose life was marked by faith, integrity, and a deep love for her family.
Catherine married Bonner Lee Cousins on April 30, 1959, and they enjoyed 65 years of grace-filled marriage. Their enduring marriage was blessed with two daughters, Connie Cousins Rink and Terri Cousins Mire.
A graduate of East Carolina University, Catherine earned her bachelor’s degree in education and went on to teach mathematics for 30 years at Rochelle Middle School in Kinston, North Carolina. She was a gifted and dedicated educator who both loved her students and was deeply loved by them in return.
In 2004, Catherine and her husband, Bonner, moved to Charleston, South Carolina, to be closer to their grandchildren. During this time, they became active members of St. Philip’s Church, where they were richly blessed by the fellowship and Christian teaching. In retirement, Catherine enjoyed her lifelong love of bridge and was a familiar and cherished presence at her Mount Pleasant bridge club. Also, she especially enjoyed family gatherings and loved cheering on the UNC Tarheels. Catherine was known for her strong convictions, her candid nature, and her unwavering devotion to those she loved.
Catherine is survived by her husband of 65 years, Bonner Lee Cousins and her sister Sue Worthington Tuton (Garland). She was predeceased by her brother Frederick Carney Worthington, Jr. She is also survived by her two daughters, Connie Cousins Rink of Charleston, South Carolina (John (Jeff) Rink) and Terri Cousins Mire of Charlotte, North Carolina, as well as her beloved grandchildren, Elizabeth Parker Rink of Raleigh, North Carolina (Justin Fouts), and John Bonner Rink of Charleston (Ashley Schmidt, fiancée).
