Dr. Gallagher was born August 25, 1952 in Richmond, Virginia, son of the late Carroll Segar Gallagher, Sr. and the late Adelaide Hall Gallagher and grew up in Village,Virginia. Much of his childhood was spent developing a life-long love for being on the water with friends and family - a hobby for which many will fondly remember Captain Gallagher. After graduating from The College of William and Mary and the Medical College of Virginia; Dr. Gallagher did residencies at the University of Virginia and the Medical University of South Carolina.
Professionally, he worked as an oral and maxillofacial surgeon in Charleston and had a strong passion for facial reconstruction of children born with cleft palates. His memorable adoration for all-things Irish was superseded only by his love for family. Stories recounting his grit and warm heart will persist among anyone who had the blessing of knowing him. Though he will forever be missed, another angel has skippered his way home to safety, to rest.
He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Janet Hall Gallagher of Mount Pleasant, SC; daughter, Katherine 'Katie' Gay of Daniel Island, SC; son, C. Scott Gallagher of Boston, MA; brother, Henry Lee Gallagher of Richmond, VA; granddaughter, Adelaide 'Adele' Lee Gay; and grandson, Charles 'Chip' Clark Gay, IV.
