Kalliope "Carrie" Metchicas Dimitri, 86, widow of Mitchell Sotirios Dimitri, entered into eternal rest on the morning of Saturday, May 26, 2012. The family will receive guests from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, May 28, 2012, at J. HENRY STUHR, INC., DOWNTOWN CHAPEL with the Trisagion service at 6:00 p.m.
Her friends and relatives are invited to attend her funeral services in Greek Orthodox Church of The Holy Trinity, 30 Race St., Charleston, SC 29403, at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 29, 2012. Interment will be at 3:00 p.m. at Rosemont Cemetery, 2699 College St., Newberry, SC 29108.
Carrie was born January 24, 1926, in Greenville, South Carolina, to parents, Constantine Gus and Evriklia Kehayas Metchicas. She graduated from Newberry High School, where she was a member of the Beta Club. She later attended Newberry College and was a volunteer for the Red Cross Auxiliary during World War II. Carrie was a loving wife and a wonderful, caring mother and grandmother, always willing to sacrifice for those she loved. She was a long-time member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church and was strongly committed to her God and her faith. She was also a member of the church's Ladies Philoptochos Society, a charitable organization established to help the poor, and she served as an Assistant Den Mother in Holy Trinity's Cub Scout troop.
Carrie is predeceased by parents, Constantine and Evriklia Metchicas and her brother, Jimmy Gus Metchicas. She is survived by one sister, Anna Metchicas Efstration of Greenville, SC; 3 sons, Sotirios John Dimitri of Charleston, James Constantine Dimitri and wife, Jill, of Richmond, VA, and Thomas Stephan Dimitri of Charleston; 3 granddaughters, Anna Athena Dimitri of Charleston, and Alexandra Clare Dimitri and Elena Dorothea Dimitri of Richmond, VA; and brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Zena Slayton of Atlanta, GA.
The family would like to give special thanks to long-term caregivers, Clara Hampton of Pineville, SC and Ansonia Glover of St. Stephen, SC, whose affection, compassion and attentive care we will always remember with gratitude.
