Carolyn was born September 24, 1926 in Charleston, SC, a daughter of the late George L. and Rosa K. Kornahrens.
Besides her husband of 68 years, she was predeceased by her sister, Dorothy Smith.
Carolyn is survived by her three daughters, Jacqueline West, Paulette West Blackmer (Myron), and Carol West Huggins (Robert); her four grandchildren, William K. Murray (Jamie), Kevin J. Murray, Ryan K. Huggins (Diana), and Lindsay A. Huggins; and one great-grandson, James R. Huggins.
After graduating from high school, Carolyn attended and graduated from Rice Business College. She managed the offices of two different meat packing food companies. Carolyn stayed at home caring for her three daughters and participated in their activities for many years.
Carolyn enjoyed several hobbies and interests. Among them were preparing home-cooked meals, baking, crocheting, and sewing. Her special gifts and talents were generously shared with family, friends, and her faith community and were created with them in mind. She always looked forward to spending time with her grandchildren.
The Lord blessed Carolyn with a life full of love and service. She zealously modeled these qualities as a planner and influencer as she reached out to others. Not wanting any to be left out, she visited the shut-ins from her church for decades and served in numerous roles throughout the life of her church. Her personal touch of hand-written cards encouraged many as she shared her faith. Carolyn was instrumental in planning activities that brought people together. These virtues and her quick-witted humor will also live on.
As we celebrate Carolyn's life, she will be remembered for her acts of kindness and generous love and joy as she cared for her family and others. She has been faithful in many valuable roles, but her roles of being a devoted wife and mother can only be filled by her. Carolyn will be greatly missed, just as she has been greatly loved.
Memorials may be made to Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, 714 Riverdale Drive, Charleston, SC 29407.
