Carolyn A. Robertson

October 31, 1925 — January 7, 2011

Carolyn A. Robertson, of North Charleston, entered into eternal rest on January 7, 2011. "Lynn" was born on October 31, 1925, in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, the cherished daughter of the late Mr. Edward C. Roberts and Mrs. Olive B. Roberts of Prospect Park, Pennsylvania. She was preceded in death by her brother, Edward C. Roberts, Jr., who was killed in action in World War II, and by her beloved husband, Claron A. Robertson, Jr.  Lynn was a 1947 graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, and married "Robbie" on June 8, 1948, an hour after his graduation from West Point.  They shared interests in travel, music, and literature, and traveled widely during and after Robbie's military career.  She was an enthusiastic amateur artist, an occasional substitute English teacher, and a tireless advocate and cheerleader for her family.  Lynn was, for more than 20 years, an active member of Bethany United Methodist Church in Summerville, and a devout and thoughtful participant in Sunday School and Bible study.  She was widely admired for her gentle and kind spirit and particularly for her quiet strength as she uncomplainingly shouldered the responsibility for her son Carter, who lived with her every day of his almost 62 years. She is survived by her two sons, Edward Carter Robertson of North Charleston, and Claron A. ("Rob") Robertson, III and his wife Martha Ann of Charleston, and her grandchildren, Katherine Shipley Robertson Salewski and husband Tony of San Francisco, California, Stuart Atherton Robertson and wife Kate of Charleston, South Carolina, and Kendall Monroe Robertson Fleming and husband Carlton, of Charlotte, North Carolina.

The family will receive friends at a reception celebrating Lynn's extraordinary life at Bethany United Methodist Church, 118 W. 3rd Street South, Summerville, on Tuesday, January 11, 2011, beginning at 1:00 p.m., and a memorial service will be conducted in the Chapel thereafter at 2:30 p.m.

 J. HENRY STUHR, INC., NORTHWOODS CHAPEL, 2180 Greenridge Road, North Charleston is in charge of the arrangements.
