Carolyn B. Hooker

Carolyn B. Hooker, 96, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, widow of Lt Col, USAF Ret, Walter P. Hooker, Jr. entered into eternal rest Monday, October 8, 2018. Her Funeral Service will be held Saturday, October 20, 2018 in St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, 405 King Street at 10:00 a.m. with the family receiving friends in the church Narthex following the service. A committal service will be held Saturday at Franke at Seaside Columbarium at 12:00 p.m. A memorial service will follow in the Rodenberg Chapel (Franke at Seaside) at 12:30 p.m. ending with a reception in the Burges Center. Carolyn was born June 13, 1922 in Charleston, South Carolina, daughter of Charles D. Boette, MD and Annie Kangeter Boette. She attended Mitchell Elementary School and Ashley Hall before graduating from the College of Charleston. She retired as an administrative assistant in the Civil Service. Carolyn was a member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church and met her future husband at Luther League. After marrying Walter in 1942, she eventually traveled the world with him as their sons grew up in Germany, Morocco, Thailand, five states while visiting many more countries and states.

She loved life, watching sports, travel, friendships, the Church, campus ministry, family, and her husband Walter. Watching any of the Georgia Tech, Atlanta Braves, or Charleston RiverDogs games were great fun; but the best was meeting "Charlie" at her 95th birthday party. Carolyn and Walter supported campus ministry and over the years "adopted" several students from St. Matthews' program and all stayed in touch after their graduation from College of Charleston. She and Walter took their godparent duties seriously and she also has one goddaughter who was the daughter of her maid of honor and best man at their wedding.

Both Carolyn and Walter were fond of cruising around the world and took many trips with the last one visiting Australia, New Zealand, and seeing two New Year's in 2000 with one on each side of the International Date Line. Antarctica was the only continent she never visited. They took their sons, daughters-in-law, and grandchildren on International and National trips. Some trips were very local to see Apollo and Shuttle launches and the 1996 Olympics while others were to more exotic places to see the Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro, Eiffel Tower, and Taj Mahal. All three sons and one granddaughter caught their travel enthusiasm and have also visited many varied destinations.

She was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 65 years, Walter, and their youngest son, Richard A. Hooker of Atlanta, Georgia. She is survived by two sons: Walter C. Hooker and his wife Roberta of Palm Coast, Florida, William P. Hooker and his wife Tanya of Skadovsk, Ukraine, and daughter-in-law Vicki Gamble (Richard) of Atlanta, Georgia. She is also survived by three grandchildren: Shannon Hooker, Kathryn Price and her husband John, and Jordan Gamble; and four adorable great grandchildren: Lottie, Lucy, Winn, and Cora.
