Carolyn Jean Brunnick, of Mount Pleasant, SC, passed away peacefully, July 12, 2016 in Charleston, SC. She was born in Portland, Oregon on May 5, 1949. She spent her early years in Shelbyville, IN and then in Shelby, NC. She was a graduate of Shelby High School, Peace Jr. College, and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where she received a degree in Studio Art. After a brief stay in Atlanta, GA she returned to the University of North Carolina at Boone earning her teaching degree in Art. She began her teaching career in Charleston, moved to Mount Pleasant and started a 27 year career as a third and fourth grade teacher at Mamie P. Whiteside Elementary School. During her days in Mt Pleasant she became increasingly devoted to the Charleston Tibetan Society and took refuge there in 2014.
Carolyn was the eldest child of the late Wayne Brunnick. She is survived by her mother Jacqueline Brunnick of Shelby, NC, brothers Peter with wife Vicki, and Andrew with wife Debbie, both of Charlotte, NC, and sister Lisa Ledwith with husband Kevin of Fort Washington, PA. Nephews Zachary Ledwith and Mason Brunnick, and a very special niece Sarah Ledwith also survive her.
A service of celebration will be held on Saturday, July 16, 2016, at 2:00 pm at the J. HENRY STUHR, INC., MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL, 1494 Mathis Ferry Road, Mt. Pleasant, SC. The family will receive friends there at 1:00 pm, and also following the service at Carolyn's home. Donations in Carolyn's name may be directed to the Charleston Tibetan Society, 12 Parkwood Ave, Charleston, SC 29403 and earmarked for the Tibetan Nursery School in Mundgod, India. Carolyn's family wishes to express their gratitude to all the many of caring and helpful friends who made Carolyn's last weeks a time of love and caring.
