Caroline Hamilton Mize

Caroline Hamilton Mize, 85, of Mount Pleasant, S.C., passed away on Wednesday, October 5, 2011, after a brief illness.

The relatives and friends of Caroline Mize are invited to attend her Funeral Service on Saturday, October 8, 2011 in J. HENRY STUHR MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Marshall Blalock officiating. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Mt. Pleasant Memorial Gardens. 

Caroline was born March 16, 1926, in Charleston, S.C., to Ernest and Caroline (Carrie) Hamilton. She graduated from Rivers High School in Charleston and worked for many years with South Carolina Electric and Gas. 

She is survived by her sister, Frances Hamilton of James Island, S.C.; her brother-in-law, Charles Gupton Sr. of New Bern, N.C.; her nephews, Charles Gupton, Jr. (Linda) of Louisburg, N.C., and Scott Gupton of New Bern, N.C.; two great-nephews, Grant Gupton and Zachary Gupton, both of New Bern, N.C.; and two great-nieces, Caroline Gupton and Abigail Gupton, both of New Bern, N.C.; step-daughter, Sandy Mize Evans of North Charleston; sister-in-law Betsy Petit of Oviedo, Fla.; niece, Jolyn Petit of Oviedo, Fla.; step-granddaughter, Michele Luther (Mark) of Middletown, Rhode Island; step-grandson, John C. Evans III (Nicole) of Hanahan, S.C.; and seven step-great-grandchildren: Wilson, Samantha, Madisyn, Evan and Hayden Luther, Jarett Evans and Taylor Waters. Caroline was preceded in death by her husband of more than 30 years, Carl H. Mize. She was also preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Ernestine Hamilton Gupton.

 The family offers its special thanks to Deandra Spann who lovingly cared for Caroline over the past year.
