Caroline Bischoff Lown

September 13, 1920 — February 5, 2011

 


Caroline Bischoff Lown of Charleston, SC, died on Saturday, February 5, 2011.  She was the daughter of William Bischoff and Charlotte Fischer Bischoff.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Walden E. Lown and her brother, William Bischoff, Jr.  Funeral services will be held at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, February 7, 2011.  Officiating will be the Reverend Dr. Robert W. Wallace.  Interment, Bethany Cemetery.  Friends may call at J. HENRY STUHR, INC., DOWNTOWN CHAPEL, Sunday, from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. 



 

 A 1942 graduate of the College of Charleston, she was a life member of the Alumni Association of the College.  Employed by the College in 1950, she first served as secretary to the Academic Dean and later was appointed the College Registrar.  She resigned from the College in 1960 and was then employed in the executive academic administration of the Medical University of South Carolina until her retirement in 1986. 



 


Mrs. Lown was a member of the Society of 1824 of the Medical University of South Carolina.  She was also a member of the Medical University Women's Club and was honored by her peers with an honorary membership of that organization in 2001.  She was a founding member of the Bishop Gadsden Retirement Community and lived there from 1999 until her death.  Her other interests included life memberships in the Charleston Library Society and the Waring Medical Library Society.  She was a member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church.



 


There are no immediate survivors.
