Carole Watson Burton

Carole Watson Burton, of Charleston, South Carolina, the wife of Dr. William "Bill" E. Burton, Jr.,  passed away Tuesday, January 19, 2021. Carole will be forever in our hearts. The family will be hosting a final visitation for Carole, and invites all to please join with them on Thursday, February 9, 2023 from 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm at the J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Downtown Chapel, 232 Calhoun Street, Charleston, SC 29401, 843-723-2524.

Carole was born in Birmingham, Alabama on October 31, 1936, the daughter of the late Steven David and Dorothy Moore Watson. She is survived by her husband, Dr. William E. “Bill” Burton, Jr. of Charleston.

Carole graduated from Samford University in Birmingham and was a majorette there and at Woodlawn High School, where she was later employed as a teacher. She also worked at the Spinal Cord Center at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Carole was a talented craftsperson who enjoyed rock-hounding, jewelry-casting, was a skilled basket-maker, and she shared her talents in after-school teaching over the years. In more recent times, she loved knitting with a group of friends and donated to “Hats for Heroes”. She loved all animals, but especially cats. She was known to feed the feral cats of Charleston that were captured, vaccinated, spayed and neutered by Charleston Animal Society and then returned to their habitat. Carole loved genealogy and she was proud of the research she had done on her family history. She was a member of Fort Sullivan Chapter, National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Avinger Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy.

If desired, memorial donations may be made to Charleston Animal Society, Roper Hospice, or an organization of your choice.
