Carol Ostendorff Walsh, 71, of Charleston, South Carolina, loving wife and forever sweetheart of James W. Walsh III, entered into eternal rest Thursday, May 19, 2016. Her Memorial Service will be held Monday, May 23, 2016, in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL, 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway, at 12:00 noon. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in Stuhr's West Ashley Chapel.
Carol was born August 6, 1944 in Charleston, South Carolina, daughter of the late William Howard Ostendorff and Elizabeth Godwin Ostendorff. She grew up in Riverland Terrace on James Island and was a graduate of James Island High School. Carol was a bright light in the Glee Club and Y Teens, as well as the editor for the high school yearbook, The Revocate.
She married Jimmie Walsh in 1965. For 34 years, she was a valuable asset to the Navy Yard and SPAWAR of North Charleston and was deeply loved and admired by her co-workers. She was an active member and faithful volunteer at Fort Johnson Baptist Church of James Island. Because her standards were always high, she had many accomplishments and honors, but the joy of her life was her family. She leaves behind a legacy through her example of southern gentility, and grace and devotion to her Savior, Jesus Christ.
She is survived by her "honey", Jimmie; two daughters: Kimberly W. Root (David) of Seneca, SC and Elizabeth W. Hill (Jeff) of James Island, SC; her sister, Louise O. Rockstad (Jon) of Summerville, SC; her brother, W. Howard Ostendorff (Aileen) of Kenya, Africa; and seven grandchildren: Kathryn, Tyler, Maddie, Jaime, Elle (Jordan), Elizabeth, and David.
Carol was an enthusiastic supporter of Freedom In Christ Ministries. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Freedom In Christ Ministries, 9051 Executive Park Drive, Suite 503, Knoxville, TN 37923 or online at www.ficm.org or www.shelbygiving.com/g3.
