Carol Linda Weatherford Henderson, 68, of Folly Beach began her journey to see her loving Lord and Savior on Wednesday, August 22, 2012. Carol was born August 2, 1944, the daughter of Harold Richard Weatherford and Dorothy Bishop Weatherford. She will be deeply missed by her loving husband of more than 48 years, Robert L. "Bobby" Henderson and by her son, Robert L. "Lance" Henderson of Folly Beach and daughter, Lisa D. Henderson and her finance' Gerry Mullen of Charleston, sisters, Dolores W. Nelson of James Island, Barbara W. Lawton (Jim) of Summerville, sister-in-law, Phyllis H. LaMacchia of Huger, grandson, Dylan Lansing Henderson and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was a beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, aunt and dear friend to so many. To her nieces and nephews she was their cherished "Auntie Caroo" and to her beloved grandson she was known as his loving "MiMi". To know Carol was to cherish and love her. She was the love of Bobby's life and truly a treasure from God. Carol was dearly loved by her close Rivers Girls who always had words of love and encouragement during her brave four year battle with cancer. Her courage and willingness to help others was seen as she volunteered to be the first woman in the country to participate in a new clinical trial and the first person to receive doses of the first of its kind molecular medicine. Her strength and determination amazed her doctors. One of her most enduring qualities was her love and compassion for others who were ill. Her wonderful laughter, beautiful face, voice and sweetness was like no other. She was selfless and unforgettable, All await the promised day when we will meet our loving God and see our Carol again for all eternity.Being supportive of her grandson Dylan's school activities made her so happy. She especially loved to attend Dylan's soccer team's games and cheer him on. Through her beautiful blue eyes she loved to see the majesty of God's creation. Her travels in the grandeur of Highlands of Scotland with Bobby, Lisa and Gerry and to Canada would never be forgotten. She especially loved the mountains of North Carolina and Tennessee. Carol loved decorating for holidays, especially Christmas and creating seashell and floral wreaths and tending to her variety of indoor and outdoor plants, watching cooking shows, beachcombing and reading inspirational books. For years she kept a diary to be given to her beloved grandson Dylan. She will be missed by her loving therapy dog Dolly and cat Timmy.Carol was a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church where she was baptized, confirmed and married Bobby on May 31, 1964. Carol and Bobby were high school sweethearts. Her strong encouragement over four years was responsible for Bobby graduating from The Citadel the day before their memorable marriage in 1964. Carol would be an active Army wife during their service at Fort Benjamin Harrison, Indiana and Fort Polk, Louisiana.As a young woman, she served as a candy stripe volunteer helping patients in the old Baker Hospital in the 1950's and worked as a sales clerk at Basha's Fashion Center on King Street. Carol graduated from Rivers High School in 1962 where she was the first and only student to complete five years of home economics classes. She requested that a special project course be created in all aspects of home making to include sewing, dress design, cooking and shopping. Her wish was granted. Carol would earn the highest grade average ever achieved in home economics at Rivers High for which she was awarded the Jahnz Medal in Home Economics at her graduation ceremony.Carol worked as a receptionist for Calhoun Company real estate on Courthouse Square. Later she worked in sales for retail businesses including Thalhimers and Hallmark and was an Avon representative. She served as a Red Cross volunteer and blood bank volunteer where she was a five gallon donor. Carol served as room mother and bus driver for two years at First Baptist Church School and later as PTF treasurer at St. Andrews First Baptist School. Carol taught Kindergarten class for several years at St. Johns Lutheran Church and at Lutheran Church of the Redeemer she served as a Sunday school teacher for third and fourth grades and as confirmation teacher for various grade levels. She worked as a teacher's aide at Middleton High School after working in the school lunch room for several years. Carol completed paramedic and computer literacy courses at Trident Technical College and retired after working for the Medical University of South Carolina for more than 20 years in the Hematology and Oncology billing office.Carol's family would like to thank the following for providing assistance to Carol: Wonderful Hospice nurse Sara Jones and Dr. William Wilson and the home health aides at Hospice of Charleston, Dr. Paul O'Brien and the Skilled staff at MUSC Hollings Cancer Center, and Dr. George Giles, Jr., and the caring chemotherapy nurses at Roper St. Francis.The family will receive friends at J. HENRY STUHR, INC., WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL Friday, August 24, 2012 from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, August 25, 2012 at 3:30 p.m. in J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., West Ashley Chapel, 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway and will be conducted by Reverend David J. Butler of St. Johns Lutheran Church. Interment will follow at Live Oak Memorial Gardens.
