Carol "Kitty" Ann Cole Adams Dunn

Carol Ann Cole Adams Dunn, lovingly known as “Grammy” and “Kitty,” passed away peacefully on June 7, 2025, at the age of 88 in Mount Pleasant, SC. Born on September 30, 1936, in Washington, D.C., Carol lived a full life rooted in family, service, and love.

Carol was the beloved wife of Jack Dunn, a U.S. Air Force veteran, with whom she shared 57 wonderful years of marriage. She is survived by her children: Katherine Gayle Dunn of Mount Pleasant, SC; Charles Wesley Adams, Jr. (Diane) of FL; and Karen Lynn Speight (Richard) of Fairhope, AL. She was a proud and loving grandmother to Lauren, Julia, Jacob, Emily (Steve), Missy (Linsey), Erica (Derek), and Matthew, and great-grandmother to Lily and Nina.

Carol resided in Vienna, Virginia for many years, where she raised her family and built a successful career. She dedicated 38 years to the United States Postal Service, serving as an Employment & Placement Specialist in the Human Resources Department at USPS Headquarters in L’Enfant Plaza, Washington, D.C. Even after retirement, her commitment continued as she returned on contract for several more years before officially settling in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina in 1998.

Carol found great joy in spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren through the years, and helping others. She also loved shopping, whether for others or simply for the joy it brought her. She had a soft spot for animals and cared deeply for the many pets she welcomed into her home over the years. Her kindness, quiet strength, and generous heart never went unnoticed and left a lasting impression on all who knew her.

She found joy in music and dancing. In fact, it was through dancing that she met the love of her life—Jack Dunn—in 1967 at the Village Barn in Washington, D.C., where they shared their very first dance. That moment began a beautiful journey together that lasted nearly six decades.

Carol was also an avid fan of sports—especially the Washington Redskins and college football—and brought her enthusiasm to every game day. You could often find her cheering on her grandchildren with pride from the sidelines of their sporting events.

She was preceded in death by her father Alexander Bolton Cole, her mother Emma Katherine Neel, and her beloved aunts, Norma Gayle Neel Arthur and Mable Neel Shade.

She will be remembered for the unconditional love she gave, the lives she touched, and the legacy she leaves behind.

A celebration of life will be announced and held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Carol's memory to your local animal shelter or humane society—a tribute to her lifelong love of animals.
