Carol Margaret Ericson Clark

July 8, 1929 — August 17, 2015

Carol Margaret Ericson Clark, 86, of Mt. Pleasant, passed on peacefully at home surrounded by family on Monday, Aug. 17, 2015. She was born July 8, 1929, in Newark, NJ. She was preceded in death by her parents John and Margaret Ericson, and her husband of almost 60 years, Foster Charles Clark.

Carol is survived by her sister, Lynn Ericson Willey of Essex Junction, VT; children Douglas Clark and his wife Susan of Mt. Pleasant; Diane Clark Cason and her husband Russell of Peachtree City, Ga.; Dennis Clark and his wife Leslie of N. Augusta, SC; and Donald Clark and his wife Marjorie of Mt. Pleasant. She had four beloved grandchildren, Michael Clark (and his wife Amy); Katie Clark Green (and her husband Tom); Debbie and Melanie Clark; three great grandchildren, Sereana, Arianna and Liam; many nieces and nephews and a host of extended grandchildren, great grandchildren and friends, including Ben Weinstein, and Linda, Nathan, Gweny, Gracie and Lydia Joy Musgrove.

Carol was a remarkable woman whose family was her first love. Active until the last week of her life, she was vibrant, caring, and had great inner strength. She and Foster were active members of First Church of Christ, Scientist, Charleston, for nearly 50 years, where she served in many capacities, most notably clerk and treasurer, for decades. In addition to providing a happy and welcoming home, Carol managed the gift shop at Ft. Sumter National Monument, a job she enjoyed to the fullest, for more than 20 years. She was a long-time member of the Exchange Club of Charleston Auxiliary, volunteering annually at the organization's Coastal Carolina Fair booth.

Earlier she was head cheerleader at her beloved Verona (NJ) High School, and attended reunions with her classmates for more than 50 years. Her German heritage from her mother made her practical, methodical and organized (everything had a label), traits she passed on to her extended family. She always loved to see new places and made memorable trips to Canada, Mexico, the UK, Ireland, France (visiting as many castles and palaces as she could) and throughout the US. Entering her home you would usually hear music, especially of the Big Band era, tunes that she would always be humming while she worked. Her favorite "work" during the past few years was the daily feeding and watering of her backyard birds and wildlife.

Arrangements are being handled by J. HENRY STUHR, INC., MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL. The family will celebrate Carol's life at a private gathering at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate that donations be made to the Exchange Club of Charleston Foundation, 9850 Highway 78, Ladson, SC 29456. A memorial message may be sent to the family by visiting Stuhr's website at www.jhenrystuhr.com <>.
