Carol Ann Loewen Blanchard, 89, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, beloved wife of Gerald Joseph Blanchard, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, August 26, 2026. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Friday, August 28, 2026, at St. Benedict Catholic Church in Mount Pleasant at noon.

Born on April 14, 1937, in Reading, Pennsylvania, Carol was the daughter of Dr. Richard Kershner Loewen and Pauline Whitaker Loewen. She earned a B.S. degree in Medical Technology from the University of Pennsylvania and later pursued her passion for art, studying at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and Corcoran School of Art. She was a devoted cheerleader for her family, a steadfast supporter of the underdog, and a passionate leader in her community. As a guiding presence through her love for the Lord, she inspired others with integrity, always grounded in her deep compassion for those around her.

A confident, vivacious and dynamic artist, Carol worked in a variety of media, including watercolors, batik and hand-painting on silk. Her work was featured in major exhibitions and several publications, including Who’s Who in America and Who’s Who in American Women. After she and her family moved to New Orleans, she turned her lifelong love of family and art into a full-time career. She later shared that passion as a teacher and owned an art gallery in the French Quarter of New Orleans. Carol also enjoyed spending time as a master gardener and teaching art.

Carol is survived by her husband, Gerald Joseph Blanchard; children: Susan Kline Aviles of Mount Pleasant, SC; Robert David Kline (Denise Wang-Kline) of Tiburon, CA; Nancy Kline Rathman (Bill) of Mount Pleasant, SC; and Yvette Johnston (Tom) of New Orleans, LA. Her legacy continues with her grandchildren: Andrew Aviles, Alex Aviles, Dustin Kline, Nathan Kline, Lauren Kline, Will Rathman (Kate), Caroline Severance (Luke), Matthew Hazelett (Robin), and Mitchell Hazelett; along with great-grandchildren Brynn and Reece.

She was predeceased by her parents and her daughter, Michele Hazelett.
