Carol Benton

July 13, 1945 — June 22, 2015

Loving wife and mother, adoring grandmother, devoted friend, Carol Little Benton, 69, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, passed away quietly at home surrounded by her family, June 22, 2015. Carol was born July 13, 1945 in Washington DC to Sarah Rita Brodie and Robert Burnes Little, who predeceased her. Carol was a graduate of General William Moultrie High School in Mt. Pleasant and attended the College of Charleston.

Carol is survived by her childhood sweetheart and best friend, James Newton Benton of Mt. Pleasant, her sons Ronald Wade (Meta) Boals and Robert Shane Boals of Mt. Pleasant, SC; two step children, Jennifer Benton Marshall of Mt. Pleasant and Bryan James (Kathleen) Benton of Jacksonville, FL; grandchildren, Elizabeth Madison Boals, Harrison Carter Boals, Caroline Victoria Boals, Lauren Ansley Boals, Jordan Thomas Marshall, and Alexander Conrad Marshall all of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Jack Farrington Boals of Nassau, Bahamas, and Michael James Benton of Jacksonville, FL; one sister, Mary Ellen Addison (Mike) of Anderson, SC and two brothers, Edward A. Granet (Cheryl) and Charles Stephen Granet, both of Mt. Pleasant, SC. Also surviving are beloved nieces and nephews, Kristen, Catherine, Scott and Brodie.

A successful business woman and entrepreneur, Carol owned and operated several businesses in Texas, retiring in 2009 from Ricoh Corp. Carol won numerous accolades and awards for her achievements during her extensive and rewarding career.

Always active in her community, Carol was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Rotary Club and the Mt. Pleasant Business Association. She served on the Board of Directors for the Magdalene House of Charleston, a transitional home for women in recovery.

As a young girl in Mt. Pleasant, Carol loved the beach, nature, and sports; excelling on the basketball and track teams while in high school. She was a private pilot, enjoyed golf, tennis, jogging, and dancing. More recently, yoga, reading, and traveling the world brought her great joy.

Her greatest pleasure was in mentoring and assisting others to find hope and joy in their daily lives. Carol saw the beauty and sacredness in each individual she met. She specifically wanted all of those in "the program" to know how much she loved them and what great joy they brought into her life.
