Carlton Edward Simmons, 83, of Charleston, South Carolina, husband of Judy Bischoff Simmons, entered into eternal rest Sunday, March 15, 2026. His Funeral Service will be held Thursday, March 19, 2026, in the J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., West Ashley Chapel at 11:00 am. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, starting at 10:00 am. Burial will follow in the Live Oak Memorial Gardens.
Carl was born January 26, 1943 in Charleston, South Carolina, son of the late Jesse Ardell Simmons and Ethel Lee Simmons. Carl received his GED in the United States Army. He was in the First Air Calvary division in the Army from May 1963 until May 1966. He served in the Vietnam War; during the war, he received many metals including a purple heart. He served his country with strength and honor. He was proud to be an American and always stood for the flag.
After returning from the war, Carl had many work accomplishments. He worked at Robinson's Cafeteria for 20 years. He also worked at Burger King, Shoney's Big Boy, and was regional manager for Duff's Smorgasbord. After years in the food industry, he opened his own business, Simmons and Sons. It specialized in reproduction of the turn of the centuries antique amusement machines including, Sports gum ball machines, golf, baseball, bowling, and big games with his partner Dean Holden. Carl worked hard all his life, with great work ethics, which he passed down to his family.
Carl loved sports and was an avid Carolina Gamecock fan. He went to Darlington, and his favorite racer was Jimmie Johnson. His favorite basketball team was Duke. His favorite sport was golf, he went to the Masters and Heritage on many occasions. He passed away watching "The Players" tournament.
Carl loved cowboy movies, Star Trek, and all types of police shows. He even taped live patrol cop shows.
Carl loved his family, and is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Judy Bischoff Simmons. He always said, "if it wasn't for JuJu, he would have left this earth a long time ago."
He is also survived by his four children, Debra Elizabeth Mollander, Clyde Larry Parnell (Beth), Patricia Simmons Bradley (JB), William Travis Simmons (Janet); nine grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. He was one of nine lovable siblings.
