Captain Oswald "O.C." Clayton Polk, Jr.

 

Oswald "O.C." Clayton Polk, Jr., 70, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, entered into eternal rest Saturday, August 26, 2023. His prayer service will be held Wednesday, September 6, 2023, in the J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Mount Pleasant Chapel, 1494 Mathis Ferry Road at 11:00 am where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

O.C. was born September 15, 1952, in Greenville, South Carolina, son of the late Oswald Clayton Polk and the late Ruth Moss Polk.  Captain Polk was a career outdoor sportsman, he served as a former shrimp boat Captain of The Captain Robert, Carolina Clipper and served as Boat Captain for Fort Sumter Tours. Captain Polk developed a specialty of building fishing rods that are well known throughout Charleston.

He is survived by his daughter, Mackenzi T. Polk (Michael Melson) of Chapel Hill, NC; sons, Benjamin M. Polk (Marci) of McClellanville, SC, Andrew C. Polk (Jamie) of Philadelphia, PA and Robert Tucker Polk (Nina) of Charleston, SC; grandchild, Murphy Polk; sisters, Pamela Polk Droste of Summerville, SC, Stephanie Polk Miesmer of Summerville, SC, Octavia Polk Coon (Robert) of Ravenel, SC, and Margaret Polk Tabor (Harold) of Rio Verde, AZ; many nieces and nephews; and a very special son-like friend to OC and all his family, John Townsend H. Cooper (Liz) of Mt Pleasant, SC.

He was preceded in death by siblings Cheryle and Raymond Mothershed of Charleston, SC, James and Karen Polk of Charleston, SC and William (Winkie) Polk of Charleston, SC; and brother-in-law, Ryan Droste.
