Camilla Saunders Blanton, 101, of Charleston, South Carolina, widow of Samuel T. "Red" Blanton entered into eternal rest Wednesday, February 17, 2016. Her Funeral Service will be held Saturday, February 27, 2016 in J. HENRY STUHR INC., WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL, 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway at 12:00 p.m. The family will receive friends in Stuhr's Saturday from 11:00 a.m until the time of service. Interment will follow in Live Oak Cemetery, Walterboro, SC.
Camilla was born November 18, 1914 in Stokes, SC, daughter of the late Dwight Moody Saunders and Beulah Benton Saunders. She was a graduate of Memminger High School where she enjoyed being apart of Miss McMahon's chorus when growing up. She was a member of the Memminger Glee Club, Beginner Dept, Girl Scout Leader, and the National Association of CCC (Civilian Conservations Corp) Alumni. Camilla was a retired Ophthomalic Medical Assistant with Doctors Clay W. Evatt, Jr., and Sr for 19 years. She was a member at Ashley River Baptist Church since May of 1946.
She is survived by her two daughters, Judi B. Meyer (Tony) of Johns Island, SC, and Susan Mosier (Bob) of Lebanon, OR; four grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Camilla is predeceased by two sisters, Marie Smith Elliott, Lois Nelson, and nephew, Russell Nelson.
