Calvin D. Lipscomb, Jr., known fondly to many as Cal or CD, passed away on March 31, 2025, in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, at the age of 58. Born on April 28, 1966, in Brunswick, Georgia, Calvin's adventurous spirit led him to a rich and fulfilling life that was defined by his dedication to family, and career.
A graduate of Summerville High School in 1984, Cal went on to further his education at Auburn University in Alabama, where he earned a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering in 1989. His career, which spanned more than 30 years, found him at the forefront of the oil and gas industry, primarily with CBI. Cal traveled extensively throughout the United States and around the world, embracing a nomadic lifestyle that was both inspiring and rewarding. Colleagues and friends remember him as a natural leader, whose patience, mentorship, and ability to teach made a significant impact on those around him. He thrived on the job site, guiding his teams towards successful outcomes, always proud to share stories about his roots and the loved ones he cherished.
Cal is preceded in death by his mother, Marilyn DeLand Lipscom and his brother-in-law, Paul Dawson of the Uk. He is survived by his father, Calvin Lipscomb Sr., who continues to honor his son’s legacy; his devoted wife of 20 years, Karen Lipscomb from Lakeville, Minnesota; and his two beloved daughters, Amelia Rose and Faith Rae, who both reside in Lakeville, Minnesota and his parents-in-law Valerie and Tony Dawson of Newbury, UK. Cal also leaves behind his sisters, Ashley (Jason) of Clarksville, Tennessee, and Jocelyn (Jason) of Virginia Beach, Virginia. He was an adoring uncle to his nephews Zack (Brittany), Josh, and Joey, and his nieces Liya and Mary Elizabeth.
Cal made a lasting impression on those who had the privilege of knowing him, from friends to colleagues to family. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who had the fortune to cross his path.
The family invites friends to gather in the narthex immediately following the funeral service, which will be held on Saturday, April 26, at 1 PM at the First United Methodist Church, located at 12 21st Ave, Isle of Palms, SC 29451. Interment will be private.
