Calvin "Cal" James Elliott, 99, formerly of North Charleston, SC died Thursday, March 16, 2017 in Walterboro, SC at the Veterans Victory House.
Cal was born February 21, 1918 in Whitesville, DE, son of the late Clarence Elliott and the late Bessie Evans Elliott. He served in the Army Air Corps during WWII. Cal started his career in apparel manufacturing as a sewing machine mechanic and because of his strong work ethic retired as manager for Levi Straus. Cal was a faithful, long time member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church, was active with the United Methodist Men and was also a Sunday School Teacher.
He was a devoted husband for 68 years to the late Asoline Smoak Elliott; a loving father of two daughters, Roberta Bowie (Ralph Harrell) of Mt. Pleasant, SC and Cynthia Black of Daytona Beach, FL; sister, Bernice Hearn and brother, Lester Elliott (Eleanor) all of Delmar, DE. He was a loving grandfather to three grandchildren: Karen Rae of Mt. Pleasant, Kevin Bowie of James Island and Christi Kotwica of South Daytona, FL; and dearly loved his four great-grandchildren.
The relatives and friends of Mr. Elliott are invited to attend his funeral service to be held Tuesday, March 21, 2017 in the Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 1444 Remount Road at 1:00 pm. Interment with military honors will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. Friends may call Monday, March 20, 2017, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm in J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Northwoods Chapel, 2180 Greenridge Road.
