Cadwallader Jones was born November 26, 1921 in East Orange, New Jersey, the son of Allen Jones and Helen Iredell Williams Jones. He was a 1942 Civil Engineering graduate of The Citadel where he was a Cadet Company Commander, member of The Summerall Guards, and Captain of the Track Team. Upon graduation he went immediately into the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to serve in the Pacific Theatre of World War II.
Before the war's end "Quaddy" married his sweetheart Lucy Paul, and following his Army service, he went to work in the family business at Paul Motor Company. In 1967, Mr. Jones founded Jones Ford, Inc., in North Charleston, retiring in 1992. He was also member of the Board of Directors of First Federal Savings and Loan.
Mr. Jones was an Elder Emeritus at Church Creek Presbyterian Church (PCA) where he was a Sunday school teacher and member of the choir. He was a Past President of the Rotary Club of North Charleston, Chairman of the Blood Services Committee of the American Red Cross, Director for the Charleston YMCA, and participant in numerous other community organizations. He was a physical fitness advocate, and an avid jogger, serving on the board that started the Cooper River Bridge Run. He and Lucy are members of the Cooper River Bridge Run Hall of Fame. Cadwallader will also be remembered for the numerous succinct letters he wrote to the editor of the Charleston Post and Courier.
Mr. Jones is survived by his wife of 65 years, Lucy Paul Jones; three daughters: Helen Iredell Jones of Lake Lure, NC, Grange Walters (David), and Robin Cooper (Richard) of Charleston; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by an infant son, a grandson Bixby Cooper, a sister, Jane Clarke, and a brother Allen Jones, Jr.
The family would like to give special thanks to Taylor Pope, Susannah Johnston, Charlene Crawford and Charnette Pinckney who have helped us all through these last years with their outstanding and tender care.
"Quaddy" Jones was a loving husband, a devoted father and grandfather, both a diligent businessman and a caring, generous employer, an active church member and community leader. But above all else, he was a man who wanted his life to bring glory and honor to His Lord, and he never tired of thanking God for His goodness and grace in all things.
Memorials may be made to Church Creek Presbyterian Church Building Fund or to The Charleston Christian School, both at 2234 Plainview Road, Charleston, SC 29414.
