Entered into eternal rest on the morning of August 5, 2010, Burrell Willoughby Varner, widower of Wilma Zeigler Varner. Residence, Charleston, South Carolina. The relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral service at Ashley River Baptist Church, Monday, August 9, 2010, at ten o'clock. Burial will follow in Live Oak Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at J. HENRY STUHR, INC., WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL Sunday from five until seven o'clock.
Mr. Varner was born on December 30, 1918 in Charleston, South Carolina, son of the late Burrell W. Varner, Sr. and Jessie Mae Bailey Varner. He was a retired supervisor and machine tender at Westvaco for 40 years and was a faithful member of Ashley River Baptist Church. Mr. Varner was a man of integrity who always put God and family first. He loved people and instinctively made friends and had many wonderful friends at Ashley Park. He loved the ball players at the playground and spent many hours enjoying the ball games. He was also a member of Elks and was a mason.
Surviving are two daughters, Sandra L. Mappus and husband Fred of Charleston, Barbara V. Dosher and husband Bob of Charleston; a brother, Jack Varner of Summerville; two sisters, Emily Varner Brown of Charleston and Betty Wise of Charleston; seven grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
