Buddy Randolph Carter

Buddy Randolph Carter, Sr., 81, of Charleston, South Carolina, husband of Frankie Boyce Carter entered into eternal rest Thursday, November 16, 2017. The family will receive friends Monday, November 20, in J. HENRY STUHR INC., WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL, 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Buddy was born September 1, 1936 in Orangeburg, South Carolina, son of the late Willie Ceborn Carter and Alma Craven Carter. He attended Old Courtney Elementary, and Charleston High School. Buddy was a graduate of The National and The South Carolina Fire Academies, Midlands, and Trident Technical College. He served in the S.C. National Guard in the Washington Light Infantry. He retired from the Charleston Fire Department in 1994 after 36 years as the Chief Fire/Arson Investigator and was also a reserve police officer in the Charleston Police Department. Buddy was the past president of the Tri-county Fire Chief's Association, and he received the Knights of Columbus Fireman of the Year award, and a number of other awards and citations. He also worked at The North Charleston Coliseum on the Event Staff for the past 23 years.

Buddy began volunteering at St. Andrews Parks and Playground in 1970 and remained active until his passing. He served in variety of roles, including coaching, volunteering and as an employee. Buddy was the Athletic Departments part-time Employee of the Year on multiple occasions and was inducted in 2011 into the St. Andrews Parks and Playground Hall of Fame. He served as Dixie Youth District 7 Umpire-in-Chief for many years, and The South Carolina State National Umpire Association for Babe Ruth and Cal Ripken Leagues.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Frankie Carter; two sons, Buddy "Randy" Randolph Carter, Jr., and his wife Suzanne(Suzy), William "Tom" Thomas Carter; three grandchildren, Wilson Scott Carter, Buddy "Trey" Randolph Carter III., and Mason Mullinax all of Charleston, SC.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Buddy's honor to the Lowcountry Firefighter's Support Group, firefightersupport.org.
