SCPO Bruce Arthur Meserve, USN (Retired), 66, of Hanahan, South Carolina, husband of Michelle Boyce Meserve, died Saturday, January 20, 2018. His funeral service with military honors will be held Tuesday, January 23, 2018 in the J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Northwoods Chapel, 2180 Greenridge Road, at 12:30 pm. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm in Northwoods Chapel.
Born September 20, 1951 in Portland, Maine, he was a graduate of Westbrook High School. He retired from the United States Navy as Senior Chief. During his 23 year Naval career he was involved in the rescue mission following the 1987 attack on the USS Stark. Following retirement Bruce worked in the carpet industry and was a code enforcement officer for the City of North Charleston.Bruce gave of his time and many talents as a mentor to children. He was a coach for the Hanahan Recreation girls softball team for 10 years. The team went to several world series and brought home a victory. Bruce was a former PTA President of Hanahan Middle School and also served as President of the Hanahan Marching Band Booster Club. In appreciation for his dedication to volunteerism, the City of Hanahan declared "Bruce Meserve Day". He was also an avid NASCAR and Carolina Gamecocks fan.
He is survived by his wife of 23 years Michelle; son Chris Meserve of Columbia, SC; two daughters: Ashleigh Starbird (James) of Hanahan, SC; Linda Meserve of Jacksonville, FL; two nieces, Emily Elmore and Amber Elmore.
