Bridget M. Hill, aged 88 of West Ashley, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on September 5th at Roper St Francis, Mount Pleasant with her family by her side. Bridget was born on Sept 19, 1936 in Norfolk, England to Mark and Eileen Bell. Bridget attended Imperial Service College in London in 1957 where she learned commercial cooking and could serve a meal for 500 people. It was during this time that she met her true love, Brian Hill.

Bridget and Brian married on June 5, 1959 in England and were married for 66 years. They had two daughters, Rosemary (Winn) Coplin and Meriel (Kurt) Rongstad. The family moved from England to the US in 1967. Brian and Bridget lived in Virginia, Maryland and Wisconsin before retiring to Charleston, South Carolina in 1995.

Bridget enjoyed sailing while growing up in Guernsey, an island in the English Channel and later taught Brian how to sail. They spent many afternoons enjoying a leisurely sail in the Charleston Harbor and enjoyed the competition of Wednesday evening races. Bridget was an enthusiastic member of the Charleston Yacht Club. She was also a talented tennis player and won numerous competitions in to her early 80s. In addition, she excelled on the golf course.

Bridget was a wonderful mother to Rosemary and Meriel. They spent many summer holidays camping and exploring the US. She volunteered in the classroom and was a Girl Scout Leader. When her daughters were grown, she worked for National Opinion Research Center, gathering surveys from communities concerning every aspect of the human experience. Upon retiring to Charleston, she volunteered at the Animal Forest at Charlestowne Landing.

Bridget was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, John and her son in law, Winn Coplin. She is survived by her beloved husband, Brian, daughters, Rosemary and Meriel (Kurt), granddaughters Rachel (Dan) and Mallory (Jarod), grandson Derek (Meg) and great grandchildren, Jane and JJ, nieces Diana and Jenny. She also leaves behind her cherished cats, Patsy and Weezy.

The family would like to thank Bridget’s friends for their supportive and loving friendship over the years, especially Shirley Ryan, Karen Gaag, Bob and Beth Kelley and Lauther and Priscilla Parker.
